Hoping for some help. Car been for a service and technician an experienced guy, says the timing chain needs to be replaced as it is louder than it should be. not been changed since i owned it, a few years now. Timing belt has been done with original audi parts 2 years ago but no chain was done at the time.
Slide the new belt in place. When installing the new Tensioner, make sure that the rear tab fits completely inside the block. Now, set the tension: Tight barely the Tensioner nut. Using an Allen wrench, turn clockwise the center of the Tensioner until the notch is aligned with the highlighted dot.
Bumper cover and front clip is only an hour or so, so dropping the engine to get to the rear chains is a curious call. And bunch of other parts. On the 2.0T, TFSI (and TSI) the tensioner for the lower chain has a design defect that causes it to fail. When it fails, the timing chain skips a few teeth (timing is now wrong), and the valves can collide with the tops of the pistons, destroying your engine. This usually happens when you start the engine.
Goes to show you the value of reducing oil change intervals, and doing an annual regardless of mileage driven, etc. Unfamiliar with the number of tensioners and chain slides/guides it takes to completely service the 3.0T motor in your car, but as you said, you did what you could with engine still in the car.
